I'm still ruing my decision to put C Ronaldo as my fantasy premier league captain. Argh, look what C Fab did for Arsenal...argh...and why newcastle lose to a shitty team like Derby? Yes, Derby, the same team that was thrashed by Liverpool 6-0! Argh, looks like the Big Sam Revolution is indefinitely postphoned.

Anyway, a phone call to my home got me thinking. I never even bothered to pick up the call because somehow I already knew the call wasn't meant for me. And 90% of the time, I am right. Now that I come to think of it, when do people actually call your home just to reach you? If people want to contact you, they either reach you on your handphone number or contact you on MSN. With people's identities linked to their handphone numbers instead, the home number has just become an obsolete 8 digits number used by old family friends and relatives. So what's the point I am making here? Nothing, just a random observation on how technology has changed our way of living.

I also happened to think about 3 friends of mine. In my mind, they seem to be doing some really uninteresting things in their lives. Let me tell you about the things they do in their lives.

During the day, they go to school just like any other self-motivated undergraduate. But no-no, school can be quite boring for them. Imagine going for to a lecture room full of PRCs and scholars from India, with almost no pretty gals to admire, and then listening to some really quirky lecturer drone on and on about a complex and yet sibei boring topic. And you do this for a continuous period of about say 8 hours for 5 days a week. In the middle of the week, you have to rush out this monster assignment called the LAB REPORT. I don't know about you but I am sure I would not enjoy a school week like this.

You might say, school may be boring but perhaps they have a sibei happening life outside of school right? Ok let me tell you what they do outside of class and you decide ok? Each of them does slightly different things but basically they don't go anywhere else during the school week other than "zi bi" at home. Being the self-motivated undergraduates that they are, they hit the books again after dinner. Once revision is complete, they play weird games like Nine Dragons, DOTA and on the few occasions when they actually leave home, they head to the neighbourhood mall arcade to rub some cards over and over again on a plastic surface. I won't bother to explain what exactly they are doing because the nature of the games are such that either you get it (because you have played the game and understand the joy of it) or you will not get it even if I explain to you a thousand times. From time to time, they also surf the websites for some really wacky websites to do some really strange stuff. A few examples can be found in this blog, if you know what I mean.

BUT...before you start to condemn them for their apparently uninteresting lifestyles, let me tell you one thing. They happen to be 3 of the happiest persons I know as well. Sometimes, I see some people who seem to doing some really interesting activities but I often doubt whether they are truly happy. To the outside world, they may appear to be happy people but I'm not too sure whether they feel the same way deep inside. These 3 friends, on the other hand, chose to keep their lives very very simple and I must say I do envy them for being able to go through life without any worries at all.

So I came to the conclusion that it is not so much what you have or the things you do that makes you happy. Rather, it is more of your attitudes and beliefs that determine your happiness. These 3 friends of mine are clear about the things that make them happy, namely good grades and Nine Dragons and they choose to desire simple things that they can easily obtain instead of lusting after things they realistically cannot have. That is why they are one of the happiest people around in this world. And, if the pursuit of happiness and peace in your heart is not the main goal of life, I don't know what else will be.

Sometimes, life throws you a lemon and hey according to the wise men, you are supposed to make lemonade.

But very often, that is easier said than done.

Sometimes, shit just hit the fans on the ceiling. Now try to picture that happening. The shit will fly all over the place and soon you find yourself in a real dirty disgusting mess. That is how it must feel like when you hit one of the lowest points in your life.

A very natural response would be to ask, why? why me? And very often, you will find many many possible answers but none of them would be in the least bit satisfactory.

The wise men would tell you, behind every dark cloud, is a silver lining and that it is up to us to look for that. You can try and you might really find one. But very often, the silver lining consoles rather than solves the problem. At the end of the day, the problem is still there.

And sometimes, there are problems which you will not be able to solve. Either because you do not have the answers or because the answers require external factors which are beyond your control.

But, there is one thing which will forever be within our control. It is our attitude towards the problem. We can learn to take things in our stride and yes that includes the stain of shit that can't be washed away from your shirt. You don't need the stain of shit to be cleaned away before you can start feeling better about yourself.

In fact, change happens when you DECIDE to make a change. The external circumstances may remain unchanged or it may even become worse. But you can definitely change the way you are feeling.

How? How to get out of the current rut you are in now?

Sounds simple but all it really takes is this...

actually DECIDING to get out of it.

Just some random thoughts and not always coherent...

I was eating my dinner on the living room table with the TODAY newspaper under me when two quotes caught my eye.

The first quote was this:

"None of our politicians could bring us under this flag like our national team did. Politicians should take a lesson from our team, which is made up of Sunnis, Shias and Kurds, who worked together regardless of their backgrounds and won."

This was taken from an Iraqi man, who took to the streets along with hordes of Iraqis after watching the Iraqi national team advance to the Asia Cup Final.

Ah the magic of football!

Some people have questioned the need to invest so much money into football as a sport in Singapore. They point to the lacklustre results of the national team over the past decade and argue that perhaps resources would be better channelled to sports where Singapore has a realistic chance of winning a medal such as sailing and table-tennis.

First of all, footballing standards have been steadily improving under the able guidance of the national team coach Raddy. True, we are not even anywhere close to the standards of the traditional soccer powerhouses like England and England. However, progress has been made and what Singapore football really needs now is support from its people.

Second, football is just different from other sports. It unites the country in ways that sports like table-tennis and sailing will never achieve. I'm pretty sure Singaporeans would take more pride in winning the FIFA World Cup than the Olympic Gold in any other sports. So am I suggesting that football is superior to other sports? Sorry, just like people, not all sports are created equal and we just have to accept that the magic of football cannot be matched with those of any other sports.

What should we do then? Far from cutting resources from football development, we should pour more capital into it! So what if we don't win anything in the end? The bonding effect on its people far outweighs the value of the trophies.

No prizes for guessing which side I will be rooting for in this Asian Cup Final. Maybe a victory may do what hundreds of thousands of US soldiers fail to do, namely unite the country under the Iraqi flag.

The second quote that caught my eye was this:

"People are never comfortable sharing toothbrushes, so why are they willing to share their bodies with people they hardly know?"

This came from a TODAY reader in response to the report on sexually active youths in Singapore. I thought this quote was simply splendid! Well said!

On a side note, I shall end by declaring that my skill in Hearts has improved by leaps and bounds, thanks to the 3 hours of solid practice against the computer. I am ready to take on the world muhahaha.

Synopsis(from wikipedia):

ok....for those who got learn jap, most prob u will be able to translate the above hiragana.... anyway the above will translate to become Nodame Cantabile which is the title of the show i just finished みます(watching)....and i must say it is a really gd show....so if u find that u got nothing to do, give this show a try....it is a short じゅういち(eleven) episodes tv drama.... hmmm...i dun think i will はなします(say) much about the show in case i accidentally reveal some spoilers, でも(but) i can tell you that its a really good romantic comedy...my personal fav? hmm....いち(one)、に(two)、さん(three)、く(nine)、じゅう(10)、じゅういち(eleven)。

Sometimes when I think of the past, I can't help but resist a chuckle. The past problems that seem so difficult to solve, the things that I used to value highly in the past, turn out to be of little significance today. Sometimes you just wonder why you went through so much fuss over nothing.

Maybe that is something to remember when we face today's problems. Just imagine yourself a few decades down the road, reminiscing about the things that worry you today. Perhaps then we will realise how foolish we were to fret over things that will not matter at all in the future.

TH14 or Titi has left for Barca for 16 million pounds...a shameful price considering charlton wants 17 million for darren bent... Anyway whats done is done, short of TH14 failing his medical on Monday hence causing the whole deal to be off...W/o him...where is the joy in watching arsenal playing their street soccer on a pitch...maybe i wld not be subscribing to scv liao....haiz...so sad.....Oh but if we look at man utd, they sold RVN to Madrid and both of them both the league...so maybe next season Arsenal going to win EPL and Barca the La Liga...Anyway now need to find a new striker and a new captain and possibly a new manager also....time to dig out my FM and do some scouting for Arsenal....

If you people have been watching the RV4E2ooo Fantasy Premier League closely, you would have known by now that The Great Manager has just clinched the league championship as joint winners together with Mr Tham Jian Yang. Join us as The Great Manager shares his thoughts and feelings for tonight's talkshow.

Caelan (CL): A very good evening to you, Mr Ma! Congratulations for winning the RV4E2000 Fantasy Premier League for the year 06/07!

The Great Manager (TGM): Thank you. :)

CL: Man you are amazing! When you finished your first month of the season, indignant fans were demanding your sacking after finishing rock bottom of the league table for 5 consecutive weeks! Fast forward 33 weeks later and here you are, a true and worthy league champion! Could you tell us how you feel then and now?

TGM: Well, to be honest, I never had a single doubt regarding my ability. I always believe that I have the managerial class and skills to turn things around.

Yes, things were indeed a little tough at the start. How you do at the start is just a matter of luck really. You really have no idea how good the players will turn out to be at the start of the season. All you can do is to hazard a guess and pray hard that Lady Luck is on your side. As the story goes, Lady Luck chose to pit herself against me. My Arsenal and Tottenham players proved to be total flops. Not surprisingly, I ended up rock bottom for 5 weeks consecutively. Fans were baying for my blood. The bookies were taking in bets for my supposed replacements. The future did look very bleak then.

CL: So what was your response then?

TGM: Well, the most important thing you can do at this stage is really just to dig in and hang on in there. I still remember Mr Lo mocking the 4 2k shits , who were then anchored to the bottom of the table. I told myself that I have to turn things around, you know, for the pride and dignity of the 2K people, you know...

CL: Well, the other 3 so -called 2K "shits" (Mr Chen Bang Zhi, Mr Chee Zhong Hong and Mr Yeo Jun Wei) remained to the bottom of the table all the way till the end of the season, didn't they?

TGM: Well, I'm not quite sure why they are still rooted to the bottom of the table. They are all managers with tremendous amounts of experience who have some degree of success in the past. Mr Chen Bang Zhi, as you all know, was the league champion last year and Mr Chee Zhong Hong was a serious league contender last year too. Mr Yeo Jun Wei is also without a doubt the most experienced manager too, having started his career way before anyone of us did.

I guess they did not have the mental strength and persistence to turn things around. Like me, they had a very bad start due to bad luck.

CL: But sadly, they never recovered from that serious setback, right?

TGM: Yeah, that's right, unfortunately.

CL: You were in similar shitty circumstances as they were, in fact, much worse than they were, but yet you managed to pull through and even made a dramatic comeback to be crowned as league champions. What was your secret?

TGM: Well, winners never quit and quitting never win you the game. If there is one trademark characteristic of all winners, it is the never-say-die spirit. No matter how crippling the setback may be, no matter how gruelling the road may be, they never ever give up. True, not giving up in itself may not guarantee you a win but it sure gives you a chance of a win, however slim it may be.

CL: On the other hand, Mr Yap Weiming and Mr Chee Yao Hui received the favours of Lady Luck and did very well at the start. In fact, Yap Weiming once held a seemingly insurmountable lead of 100 points over you. Yet, as the season wore on, they were nowhere to be seen as they eked out a miserable midtable existence. How do you account for their dramatic collapse then?

TGM: Well, I guess true standards show with time. They were slightly inexperienced and made quite a number of fatal mangerial flaws in the transfer market and I guess they paid the price. They did show flashes of brilliance from time to time and the league would be much less interesting without them. Perhaps with time and guidance from an experienced master, they could be groomed to become top notch managers.

CL: Would you consider yourself a true master of the game?

TGM: Only fools would consider themselves so good that they need not stop learning. Top notch managers know that there is so much more to learn and discover. Do I think I am a true master? No way! There is so much more to learn and discover! So-called "mastery of the game" is merely a phrase bandied about by mediocre managers to hide their ignorance.

CL: Ok. Point taken. How about Mr Lo Hok Him and Mr Ong Swee Kim? They did pretty fine but they were never really serious title contenders as the season drew to a close. How do you explain their inability to mount a serious title challenge then?

TGM: Well, one reason is that instead of looking for solutions and learning from the best managers around, they started to blame luck for their downfall. This robbed them of precious opportunities from which to learn and emulate from managers who have done well. I think it is very important not to be too over-confident of yourself or to be too obstinate. Mr Ong Swee Kim, for example, realised the importance of having a powerful bench way too late. Mr Lo Hok Him, on the other hand, failed to realise that the key to successful management is about picking the right players at the right time. I think he became a little too obsessed about creating the most valuable team in the league so much so that he lost focus and blew it.

CL: Well, talking about value, wouldn't you say that Mr Lo Hok Him is in some respects similar to Mr Arsene Wenger this season. Mr Lo did very well in creating the most valuable team and I'm sure club chairmen would love to have managers who can create the most value out of their teams.

TGM: Not if Mr Ong Swee Kim is your boss. He will sack so-called "value-adding" managers like Mr Wenger and Mr Lo immediately. After all, the league is about points, not value adding. Value-adding is a nice statistic to have but ultimately it's the results that count.

CL: Talking about Mr Ong Swee Kim, wouldn't you agree that he was a formidable competitor indeed? Well, he held the league leader position for a whopping 20+ weeks!

TGM: Yeah he was indeed. But then again, remember there is no prize for hogging the league title position for the longest period of time. There is no prize for a good start or a solid mid-race position. There is only one prize - for the first one to cross the finishing line. And that is all that matters.

CL: How about yourself? Surely you have made a few mistakes and regretted a few decisions?

TGM: Of course there are. Shevchenko turned out to be a darn lousy buy. Arsenal and Spurs players turn out to be lousy pieces of shit. I made the mistake of holding on to such lousy pieces of shits for a long time. The other mistake I made was to buy C.Ronaldo way too late in the game, like in Feb.

CL: What? You bought the world best player that late? How the hell did you end up as league champion then?

TGM: Well, even the greatest managers make mistakes too. What is important is that we learn from them. At the very least, I did buy C.Ronaldo in the end. I did buy Berbatov in the end. This is what I meant by being willing to be humble and emulate the good points from others. I did do a number of other things right as well. One cannot deny that I have a keen eye for spotting gems especially among defenders. My famous alumni includes players like stubbs, jagielka, pearce, distin, primus, toure, baines, demerit, shorey, arteta. Most importantly, I have the ability to pick the right team at the right time. This is something that differentiates the top class managers from the run-of-the mill types. I also dare say if a reserve league had been formed, I would have won it without any fuss for such is the quality of my sub bench.

CL: Ah, I can see how you manage to stage that dramatic reversal in fortunes, dragging your team from rock bottom to the pinnacle of success. Your achievements have been nothing short of amazing! Not only did you win the league title in style, you also owned the record for the highest number of points in a gameweek (98 points along with Mr Ong Swee Kim). You have also clocked the most number of monthly wins this season (3) and monthly runners up (3) this season! In fact, since the year 07 started, you have never dropped below the top 2 in any given month! What do you say about those spectacular achievements?

TGM: Well, you have just quoted me statistics and you can't really argue against them right, can you? I mean, the league table doesn't lie, does it?

CL: So would I be right to say that having won 1 league title and 4 monthly titles (1 monthly title more than Mr Chen Bangzhi) since the inauguration of the RV4E2000 fantasy premier league, you are the most successful footie manager ever!?

TGM: Well, at least that's what the record book says...can't argue against cold hard facts, can you?

CL: And having won the JMC as a player as well, you clearly have the most distinguished football career than anyone else?

TGM: Erm yeah the trophies can testify to the above I guess.

CL: And having beaten managers who you labelled as competent, experienced and formidable, perhaps a new adjective has to be created to describe your ability!?

TGM: I suggest you do your due diligence by looking through the dictionary and thesaurus first perhaps? Coin a new word only if you have to....if you feel the "superlatives" are not good enough.

CL: Ok time to end the show. If there is one phrase to describe everything, what would it be?

TGM: Form is Temporary, Class is Permanent.

Sometimes you have to see the extent of stupidity that existed in order to know the severity of it in Singapore… Just now, I took the LRT back home…so after I reach Bukit Panjang LRT station, I alighted and went to take the lift down to the exit…So I was the next guy to enter the lift after this young lady and then after me was this bald Chinese guy who looked really stupid… Now this lady was holding the door open but this Chinese guy once he entered, he started to tap furiously at the close door button and then telling the young lady 对不起, 我赶时间. Now the problem is after this guy there was a lot of pple after him who entered the lift, so if u are rushing for time, you shld haf taken the stairs instead…ok anyway that is not the most cock point. After the lift was full, the door closed and we all expected the lift to start moving down soon…but after a few seconds, it is still not moving…u know y? tt STUPID guy forgot to press the 1st floor and the young lady haf to tell him 要按一楼…WTF man…He got take lift b4 anot or he only know the close button… Wah seh, cant believe how stupid can a person get loh… Anyway I bought a GUNDAM MODEL…HAHAHAHA…

Exams over...time to do some blogging...

Having sworn off PC games for 9 months, I felt the urge to play some games again. While it is all perfectly understandable to deny myself the pleasures of gaming during the academic semesters, surely it is ok to play PC games during the vacation period right?

After some thought, I realised the real reason why I quitted PC games. It is not so much about the potential effect on my academic results. I'm sure everyone agrees that playing PC games can potentially (italicised because I know it doesn't apply to some people) have a detrimental effect on ur studies. But that reason does not come into play once we hit vacation time. Some might ask, what's wrong with playing PC games during the holidays?

Here's why. Because PC games are the New Age Drugs of the Information Age.

Let's try to define PC games first.
PC games - games that are played on the PC AND required installation. Very often such games do not come cheap (assuming u respect IP). Games like Minesweeper and browser-based games are not included.

Let us then examine the reasons why people turn to drugs.

"Oh! Because it's fun and exciting!"

"Oh! Because all my friends are into it as well!"

"Oh! It helps me to relax and release stress!"

"Oh! It makes me feel great and powerful!"

"Oh! It transports me to another world! A fantasy world so perfect and so different from the harsh ugly world we live in!"

If you look carefully, those are the very same reasons why people play PC games. The similarities do not end here. We have heard all about drug addicts. However, nowadays we are seeing more and more people who are seeking help with their gaming addiction problems. Clearly, the addictive nature of games cannot be underestimated.

One might say that not everyone get addicted and that it is ok to play in moderation. So long as u are able to control urself, everything should turn out fine, right?

First of all, you never know when addiction will hit you. Remember, the gaming addicts think (or used to) the same way too. So why take the risk? Is your willpower really that strong? If so, try recalling the last time you actually met all the goals you made in your New Year Resolutions.

Second, the relief you get from games (or drugs), is only temporary. Very often, you will feel empty after a gaming session. Any sense of achievement you get, be it killing the boss monster or breaking your previous top score, is false. Sure, it takes skills to PWN the creatures in the game or to shoot the terrorist in the head. But these skills cannot bring you any real life benefits. No employer is going to give a shit about whether you are the top fragster in the game. Women look at the size of your wallet rather than the secret artefact (the "all-powerful" artefact is not real, it's only just a cluster of pixels!!!) u own in the game. Most importantly of all, you don't make any money by playing PC games alone.

A good way to relieve stress? I have seen people quarrel with their friends over games. I have seen people who ended up angrier after the game because they failed to find that elusive secret weapon after donkey hours of searching. Worse still, they pay 50 bucks to "buy" that stress and frustration. As though there aren't enough frustrating things in the real world.

Third, there are other healthy and beneficial ways of relieving stress such as sports or reading. I'm sure everyone can testify to the feel-good feeling after a run. You learn more new words after finishing a novel. The possibilities are endless and it's really up to the individual to go explore his interests and hobbies.

Of course, the above is just my 2 cents on PC games and you are definitely free to hold an opposing view. Ok, shall talk about some of my views on other topics on another day.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEGAL EDUCATION

Law, Year II

Many laypersons, and not a few lawyers, believe that a legal education is all about learning an allegorical book of rules. Apply rule A in situation X, rule B in situation Y, and so on. But this conception of legal education is necessarily incomplete, even if we are prepared to make the wild assumption that rules can be formulated in advance for every situation. An example will serve to illustrate. Imagine a law which imposes a $1,000 fine on persons wearing red socks. It sounds simple enough. But look slightly harder and problems emerge. What about socks that are a deep shade of pink? What, for that matter, is ‘wearing’ – does a sock slung over the shoulder count? These problems, one might say, can be dealt with by tighter definitions. Fair enough. But tight definitions will never quite eliminate the uncertainty inherent in words. Also, words are quite unlike numbers, whose precision increase with the number of decimal places cited. Use more words, and very often the effect is confusion and contradiction.

A more sophisticated legal education would include learning legal principles, such as the celebrated neighbour principle, which simply states that a person must not by her carelessness cause harm to his neighbour. Legal principles can be described as rules which are broader in scope but less precise in formulation than rules of thumb, such as the red socks rule described above. By generalising, legal principles help provide guidelines in solving legal questions when facts do not fit neatly into established rules. For example, the neighbour principle was first applied in the context of ginger beer that was tainted with the mortal remains of a snail, but has now been developed and applied in diverse situations, such as when a solicitor negligently forgot to draw up a will in accordance with his client’s instructions. But even armed with a formidable arsenal of legal rules and legal principles, the lawyer remains ill-equipped. In a famous episode in legal philosophy, it was demonstrated that the United States Constitution could be interpreted consistently with socialist ideology, using only orthodox legal principles. Whatever that exercise revealed about socialism, democracy and capitalism, it certainly laid bare the inability of formal legal principles to produce results acceptable to the judge on the bench or the person on the street.

To make a complete lawyer, therefore, it is necessary to go beyond the incomplete formal law. Lawyers must realise that the law they deal with did not drop from some legal heaven. On the contrary, it would have no meaning apart from the people to whom it speaks and whose allegiance it hopes to command. The law, and those who work with it, must therefore seek to persuade and convince people about the worthiness of its prescriptions. This is what distinguishes the very best lawyers from the merely mediocre. It is equally necessary for both the advocate advancing a seminal argument in the highest appellate court, and the solicitor advising an illiterate old woman on her will. The best judges exhibit this quality – their judgments are tightly reasoned, powerfully persuasive and I daresay accessible to laypersons. And in order to persuade and convince people, the lawyer must first understand them. To this end, other fields of learning – philosophy, economics, psychology, to name a few – are useful. Even more importantly, the lawyer must have the empathy and practical wisdom that comes from working with people, and not relate in a top-down fashion, as people are so apt to do nowadays.

The best legal education must equip aspiring lawyers to achieve all this, in addition to the learning and teaching of the formal law. It might seem to some a tall order, and in these hardnosed days unnecessary to boot. But, for those of us who share the view of Thomas Henry Bingham, an English Law Lord, that law is not merely a set of arid prescriptive rules but is a sacred flame which animates and enlightens the society in which we live, it is a vision that we must try, and try hard, to achieve.

i am sort of in charge of monitoring the expense of the dept la. then it's only a 78Cents increase from last month. -_- she thinks IT want to charge us more money. SI MI SAI. 78 cents only nia.
anyway, it's over. i wasted like half a day trying to find the person who uploads these documents. email the whole world. when i finally find the person, she dunno how many page she upload. so i just anyhow xian... and email back to my boss.

According to Daphne Lim who is in charge of uploading the submission into the Enterprise WFI system, it is not possible to confirm the number of pages uploaded but she mentioned that it would be around 10 odd pages per month.

just anyhow make up some story la. i can't be bothered.

my PITA (Pain in the ass) boss is very innovative one. she will suddenly think of smt absurd for u to go and check.

Yep, I've also been counting down to payday at the start of every month, counting down to Friday at the start of every Monday, and counting down to knock-off time at the start of every working day. Work is so sianz. I was just liberated from a 5.5 weeks long mundane audit engagement. I'm on leave again! Ha~ This is the only gd catch in being an auditor, seriously. All thanks to leave in lieu of OT hours. haha.

Haha... mk, ur boss must be trying to reconcile the figures at month end. 78 cents is indeed very insignificant. Auditors would love to see such figures coz we could then happily document 'amount is inconsequential, no further work done.' Haha. Luckily each audit has its own significant materiality threshold to follow, if not, we'll have to test samples like siao. Perusal of accounting records would be a lot worse. I can't imagine myself reviewing every JV... disastrously tedious man

I was just thinking of visiting gwen next week on one of my off days... I always go on off days I realised. haha. Lotsa time to spare while I'm on leave, and her appointments might be full on weekends that I'm free. Now that her shop is so near, gd for us! Even my client complimented on the mani she did for me during CNY period. haha. She is gd.

Next week gotta start my driving practicals... finally after so many yrs of procrastination. Learning the so called idiot-proof auto driving. By right, should be much easier & I hope so. Quite looking fwd to those lessons.

u noe when u exit the city hall mrt... to raffles city got a lot of escalators right. i went up the escalator... then there was this woman (girl??) beside me. i think she is either indonesian or philipino... din really take notice of her at first.

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, i saw this splitting image of her climbing up the escalator on the other side of me.

I was (still am) so bored in class I decided to read the class blog.. Since the pple presenting are talking about Google and Blogger.. Realised that the blog is indeed getting a bit boring.. Read from some other pple's blog that we actually attend 24 hours of lesson per week. Lesson includes lectures, tutorials and labs. 1/7 of our time is spent on lesson man, incredible. Not counting the time used to type lab-report and so on. I don't think any other faculty will have as long hours as us. ENGINE ROCKS!!!!

I dunno how many people still visit this blog. But i remember when i 1st started this blog like 2+ years ago, it was when i was nursing my injury and very boliao and therefore decided to write something.

Now this blog is almost like abandoned. And now i got this knee injury again and somehow i thought of this blog and feel like posting something, therefore i am writing this entry now.

Firstly, it's about the medical system in Singapore. I am really quite pissed about the medical system. I am going to have a surgery on my left knee nxt friday. However they asked me which ward I wanted to stay in. Then I chose B2, wanting to save some $$. However they said that if i choose B2, the operation will cost $3500 and training doctor will do the operation. What the f???Only if i choose B1 then the specialist will do the operation for me, but that cost $9500. haiz... poor people in singapore can only be trainee doctor's guinea pig.

The second thing is I realised one thing recently. Cos i was walking around in school in crutches, then normally locals and indian scholars they will give way to me and so on. But then pple from a certain eastern asia country with 1.3 billion people will always try to get in front of you, 1 of them even pushed me man. simi lanjiao!!!!

Anyway just a bit of complaining.

i am so bored at work. i have been clicking next blog on blogger since 1.30pm. <- after my lunch. if you're wondering y i am being paid to read blogs all day, you are not alone. i have been thinking about that for the past 3 months...

My colleague forwarded me "The KPMG Song" the other day... yes it's the corporate song... produced in US I think. Quite interesting actually to find out that we do have a corporate song...haha... we had a great laugh upon 1st listen of coz.

Anyway, it's the peak period now for me at least. I even hafta go back office to work both yesterday and today. Coming week will be more siong due to the tight schedule in meeting the Munich reporting deadline for my client whose yr-end is 30 Sept. Guess I'm getting more or less used to working late already... reaching home no earlier than 11 for the past 2 weeks and more to come... missing all my fav SCV dramas/variety shows/talk shows. At times I do feel a bit stressed... bet 50X more than when I was in school. So appreciate school life while you all still can! haha.

Checked my planner today & found out that I only have 8 free working days from now till Dec. So packed with jobs... sianz... Luckily I've already applied for long leave during the X'mas week. I only have 2 days of annual leave left and am comtemplating when I should apply them. I do need a break after this peak period man. Have a couple of friends who plan to go Vietnam & Cambodia this Dec... & I'm thinking of joining them. Anyone interested also? Should be an eye-opening experience I feel. I'm juz interested to check out the different cultures there. It's highly unlikely that my family/ relatives would want to visit such countries & I'm not daring enough to go there alone. Best is to find kakis who also wanna go. haha.

anywya... one of the bankers got a diamond ring with a diamond thicker than her finger. <- not kua zhang, i swear. when she wear the ring ah, u cannot see her finger cos covered by the diamond. and no her fingers not very thin. they are quite normal sized. it's the diamond that is abnormal. i purposely went to the window of SK jewellery that day during lunch (after spotting the diamond)... a diamond ring 1/3 of the size of hers cost 6,499. i think hers should be like 30k since the price should increase increasingly... how to find such a huge diamond man.

Singapore sure got a lot of lowly scum around. Today i went to my sister's graduation in NIE. Then throughout the ceremony, during speech by the dean, by Tharman, there were handphones kept ringing. Please lor, what the fuck is that? They all no manner issit? They fucking dunno it's basic courtesy to switch off handphone in such occassion issit? Fucking dumb brain shit.

Anyway there are more pissing stuff about stupid singaporean. The other day i went to the crystal jade bakery to buy some bread to eat. Then the JP outlet is very disorganised one. there is no way for you to queue up and they only have one cashier.

Then there was this aunty, she was pretty okay just that her ass is out-of-proportionally big. Then she brought her 2 monkeys to the shop also. My original intention is to quickly grab 2 bun then pay up and then zao. but then the 2 fucking monkeys jumping around and block my way so i cannot accomplish my mission fast enough so their big-ass mama get to the cashier 1st and handed 2 bun and ask for a box of 叉燒包. Then she suddenly said that why the 叉燒包 not hot one, she ask the pple to go and make it hot for her.

then in the meanwhile i was already lining up behind her with my 2 buns. That stupid cashier actually go and key in the amount of her buns 1st. Then because her 叉燒包 is in a box, then they needa scanned the price tag. But they already took it to heat it up so they need to wait for the baos to be ready then can scan. What the fuck?

So i have to wait all the way till the char siew baos got heated up, get scanned and then the aunty pay up and then they process my 2 buns. WAITED FOR FUCKING 10MIN. KNNBCCB

I AM PISSED OFF BY STUPID SINGAPOREANS…. Ok just now I was on bus 960 and the bus was very crowded cos its evening peak period… The bus uncle was stopping at every stop cos he think the bus is not crowded and can squeeze in more people…seriously I think the bus shld install some kind of weighing machine so that the bus don’t stop once a limit is reached…anyway that is not the point… so on this particular stop, the bus uncle allowed the passengers to board from the exit so yah this uncle board the bus and was standing very near to the door… right after the bus moved off, he started reading his copy of Shin Min Ri Bao… nothing special about it… at the next stop, when the bus wanted to close the door, the damn door just could not close…so the driver asked the guy to shift back his copy of newspapers so it wun kanna the sensors… but as everyone knows, when you hold the papers too low, you move the papers back by 1cm, it will bend away from you by 2cm, so in the end net gain by 1cm, so still kanna the sensors… and it wasn’t after a full 2mins b4 the door closed becos tt uncle persisted in reading his papers….you would think its only for one stop so nvm rite…but NO!! that uncle carry on for the rest of the journey until 960 got onto the expressway…KNNBCCB…in the end I reached home 20 mins late loh…wtf man… eh uncle you dun tell me you cant spare 20 mins to read ur stupid papers when you reached home ok…some more its not those kind of papers which need a longer time to understand …please loh, its SHIN MIN leh…wah lau…seriously I think we should lock up all the stupid people in one place…let their stupidity circulate among themselves and the world will then become more efficient and better to live in…wah kao…damn pissed off…ok anyway I going off for a run liao.. c ya…

England fans may rue the unfair dismissal of Rooney or blame England's exit on her own infamous penalty shootouts curse. Indeed, Lady Luck was certainly not on England's side today. Down to ten men, I thought England played valiantly to repulse waves after waves of Portuguese attacks. And I actually thought Erikkson did what he had to do in the circumstances. Even though he is usually pictured sipping water non-chalantly on the sidelines, I believe his mind has always been racing furiously to work out a battle-plan to counter his arch nemesis, Scolari. And I think he did succeed this time round. He wanted the penalty shootouts and he got it.

What happened at the penalty shootouts should be pretty clear to all England fans. Grieving aside, I suspect this result was not surprising at all. England has never won a penalty shootout at the World Cup since it was introduced in the 1980s. People attribute England's failure to some unexplainable curse.

Well, the ugly truth is that, England has only themselves to blame for its woeful record at the World Cup record. I don't really know what can be done to improve one's chances. Maybe they can engage a psychologist to improve the mental strengths of the players. Hire a soothsayer from Africa.

Well, my point is, I believe winning penalty shootouts is a science in itself. There is a whale of difference between converting a penalty during a match and winning a penalty shootout. I believe shooting technique is not the issue here. The likes of Lampard and Gerrard don't miss penalties during training, not even in EPL matches. Yet, on the big stage, they fumble and disappoint. The English are not alone here. The Italians and the Dutch have atrocious records in penalty shootouts too. The same cannot be said about the Germans and the Brazilians. WHen it comes to the crunch, they do what it takes to emerge victorious in tight contests. The key difference, perhaps, is not shooting technique but mental strength and thorough preparation.

England lost out on penalties again? Nothing new about that.

that day i went mango sale with my fren... bought lots of stuff. so happy but so poor after that. its super crowded la, esp lunch time. another off thing abt working, u cant go to sales without a bunch of aunties shoving their big handbags in your face, overwhelming you with their perfume so that you walk away from a hot spot yourself. plus i saw dawn yeo again. 3rd time i've seen her at mango sale. and she is quite short, surprisingly. i thought she quite tall one...

oh anyway, this is not abt the sale. after the sale, i take mrt home with my fren ma, then she told me her bf say wan to get married at 090909. (her bf is quite old, 4 years older than us but still in ntu. going to be there for another sem, cos he last time president of my hall then nv study. but he quite shuai. younger, less wrinkly version of Wei jun jie. <- the policeman in duo qiang shi jie, the san yuan husband. dunno wat is his screen name... ) anyway this is not the point either.

when she was telling me, i remembered something about 101010... haha... i wonder if anyone else remembers... we are supposed to meet at pandan reservoir at 10pm that day... so long ago liao. back then, it was a 10 year thingy but now left only 4... but then, it doesnt seems to be that far away either. i think that is what happens when u grow old, everything seems to have taken place yesterday.

there's this sec sch near my house la. then whenever i see them walk to mrt station after school, (btw their sch end damn early la... 1pm like that, how come i remember our lessons end at 3 plus??? or is it my illusion to believe i studied very hard in rv??) i think abt what i did after sch back then. then i realised that it's been a looooooooong time since i sat down for lunch with a bunch of frens and talk cok until evening and then go home for dinner. everyone is always rushing to go off somewhere. how come last time we so free? can sit there and talk rubbish for so long?! i vaguely remember taking 30/51/66 (<- got such bus?) at JE interchange with some ple then talk rubbish on the bus until we shuang then take back to JE.

no wonder frens from sec sch are said to be the best. i think it's cos we spend so much time together, in sch, after sch. i remember taking 187 with doreen at JE interchange instead of taking train home although mrt nearer my house than 187 busstop, so we can gossip longer... haha. but then now everyone so busy. so hard to sit down and exchange news and gossip.

girls... we shld do that someday. sit down somewhere for lunch and gossip until evening!!!! ktv is not the way to do it, cos ailing very noisy and noone can sing in peace. HAHAHAHAHA. anyway ailing oso too busy to read this. so she prob wont mind.
